NO! You should not experience pain, blisters, calluses, or sores because of your prosthesis or orthosis. You should not leave with a device that hurts when being fit with it to take home. Should any of the issues above occur, then something is not right. That does not mean your device is not made right, but could mean you have changed in some way. Discomfort usually occurs if you have fluctuation in your weight, if your muscles loosen after wearing the device, or something else has changed. No matter the reason, call our office to schedule an appointment so we can make changes if they arise.
-Insurance and Identification cards
-A prescription/referral, if you have one
-Completed patient forms
-Any assistive devices you use or are no longer able to use, such as old braces, prostheses, wheelchair, walker, crutches, etc. Allowing us to see what you have received in the past will allow us to create a treatment plan that works for you.
-Medical records from the past 6 months from your primary and prescribing physician
You should wear socks and shoes along with loose fitting clothing over the area that we will be evaluating and treating. For example, if you have a knee problem, it is best to wear shorts. For a shoulder problem, a tank top is a good choice, and for lower back problems, wear a loose fitting shirt and pants, so we can perform a thorough examination.
Evaluations will take about an hour to complete. If this is your first time at our office, please arrive early to complete paperwork.
Subsequent visits are typically 1 hour; however, many factors may result in a shorter or slightly longer appointment (ie. patient tolerance, type of adjustment needed, specific injury, age, or medical restrictions)
Family members and caregiver are allowed into the treatment area as long as they do not distract the patient or interfere with their care.
A prescription is not required for a consultation with an orthotist or prosthetist; however, we require a prescription before providing a brace or artificial limb.
There are also other documents that insurances require in order to cover your brace or artificial limb. We will work with you and your primary care physician to obtain the necessary paperwork.
-If you are not feeling well
-Have been running fever in the last 24 hours
We will be happy to reschedule you appointment after you are feeling better.
